What is Mustang Brewing Company?

We created Mustang Brewing Company to make great, easy-drinking, session beers that can be enjoyed year-round. In 2008, we created a business plan, sold our house, cashed out our 401k, moved into a rental house, and started learning to brew beer in our garage. On July 13, 2009, we served our first pint of Mustang at James E. McNellie's Public House in Oklahoma City. Things have really taken off since then! In 2011 we sold over 24,000 cases of beer in Oklahoma alone. Mustang beers can now be found in over 1,000 locations throughout Oklahoma and Arkansas, with plans to expand to additional states in 2012 and 2013. We hope you are as happy with the final products as we are. It’s no small vision, but at Mustang Brewing Company we believe in making the world a better place, one beer at a time. See below for a little more information on our brewing process. Cheers! Tim & Carmen Schoelen

Where are Mustang Beers Brewed?

Mustang Brewing Company is an Oklahoma-based company. Our award-winning recipes are developed and perfected at our headquarters and pilot brewing facility in Oklahoma City. We brew and package our beers in four facilities across three states, each a different size: Oklahoma City, OK, Krebs, OK, Stevens Point, WI, and Memphis, TN. Where we brew is determined by the size of batch needed and specialty of the specific brewery. Having a flexible, brewing model allows us to consistently meet increasing demand (but not spend too much on excess inventory). Each of our partners has been awarded multiple Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for their own brews. We work closely with each partner to ensure they meet our strict standards to be labeled as a Mustang product. We even go so far as to adjust the mineral content at each brewery to match it to our water source at our pilot plant in Oklahoma. Every brew is tasted for quality control and consistency (a favorite part of everyone's job). Our partnerships allow us to ensure consistentcy in flavor/quality, brew in flexible quantities, and never fall short of meeting demand. Our philosophy at Mustang is to make great beers in the most efficient, cost-effective way possible. We think we do that quite well. Thank you for your support. If you have any questions, please send us an e-mail. Cheers!

What's the Story Behind Your Taphandle?

In July of 2009, after being told "No" several times, we were extremely excited to finally get a bar that would carry us on tap. Howevery, we were a bit unprepared for what to do next. The bar manager, Jake, told us we should get a taphandle that was bright colored [so it would be noticed] and narrow [so it would not interfere with the adjoining handles]. Having no experience in the beverage industry, we weren't sure where to look. We were in our garage and saw a coffee table that we planned to take to the Goodwill that weekend. Tim removed the leg and painted it bright yellow with some paint left over from one of our children's school projects. He took it to the bar the next day and Jake told him that was exactly what he needed. We painted two more legs. Two were used for our launch party and one was sent to a company in Wisconsin who created a template. Each handle from then on has been based off that original leg. (Thanks Jake!) Every time we walk into a bar/restaurant, it's easy to grin at that yellow table leg staring back at us.
